Abstract: Structure, morphology and refractive index play an important role in light scattering by small particles. The effect of internal anisotropy of a particle in light scattering is the interest of our study. Scattering cross section is calculated for spheres of anatase and rutile phases of titanium dioxide, taking account of its internal anisotropy using discrete dipole approximation. Scattering spectra obtained for the birefringent single and polycrystalline sphere are compared to that obtained for an isotropic sphere with weighted averaged refractive index
