CHEMICAL ENGINEERING AND COMPETENCES IN ECOLOGY

Abstract: Environmental degradation, global warming and sustainable development are topics to be included in the curriculum of the chemical engineer to reach cognitive skills and attitude competences to deal with these burning issues of today. While the current curricula have some materials dealing with the issue of ecology and pollution, the authors have found, by means of a survey, that students are not sufficiently informed or trained to understand the complexity of pollution, global warming and sustainable development. Therefore we recommend to support the formation of these competences through the cross and hidden curricula
