UV RADIATION ASSISTED PHOTOCATALYTIC TRANSFORMATION OF AZO DYE DIRECT YELLOW-9

Abstract: Advanced oxidation process (AOP) is best for treatment of textile industries effluents (waste water). Methylene blue immobilized resin dowex-11; a photocatalyst is used for transformation of azo dyes. The mechanism of the photo transformation depends on the radiation used. Activity of catalyst remains unaffected on continuous use. The process follows pseudo first order kinetics according to Langmuir Hinshelwood model, the value of rate constant k is 1.43*10-2 min-1 and approximately 94.60% of the dye was transforms within 160 min of irradiation
