THREE PHASE VIENNA RECTIFIER FOR WIND POWER GENERATION SYSTEM
Bhumika S, Shri Harsha J
Abstract: In recent years, wind energy technology has become one of the top areas of interest for energy harvesting in the power electronics world. Wind energy conversion system is a system that converts kinetic energy of the wind into electricity. The primary focus of this project is to design and implement the power electronics converter (AC_DC) of a wind energy conversion system. The aim is to develop an interface between a three-phase AC generator operating at variable speed (e.g. wind generators) and a constant voltage DC-bus. The interface is required to ensure high energy efficiency by reducing reactive power consumption, as well as maintaining a constant DC-bus voltage. This paper deals with the design and evaluation of power electronics topology commonly called the “Vienna rectifier” that can be used for improved variable-speed wind energy conversion. The main advantage for the VIENNA converter with PFC allows more power extraction from the turbine, increasing both electrical and mechanical efficiency.
